DANCE IN STEEL

GILLIAN WHITE - Dance in Steel.
40 Year's Work

The British born artist Gillian White has become one of the most important sculptors working in steel in Switzerland, wehre she has lived for more than 40 years. Until now there has been hardly any documentation of her extensive work as an artist despite her reputation. This monograph provides the first overview, analysis and appreciation of Gillian White's art. Numerous photographs of her sculptures and a selection of essays from art historians and colleagues provide insight into the diversity of her work. The focus of this book is the monumental steel sculptures and art in response to architecture. Despite the hughe scale of these pieces and the materials used, they often appear like filigree and seem to dance. Her site-specific wall paintings and small sculptures that she has been making since the min-mineties are also represented. A comprehensive list of her installations in public spaces, a biography and a bibliography conclude the monograph.
